Election Day Watch

Independent watch on election-day conduct and INEC result uploads

Election Day Watch follows what happens at polling units through accredited observers, and tracks the Form EC8A result sheets INEC uploads to the IReV portal for the current Nigerian election. Vote figures are extracted from scanned result sheets using optical character recognition and are not independently verified.

Method

How result data is collected

Coverage is limited to sheets uploaded to IReV. Not every polling unit will have a result uploaded at any given time, and figures may change as more sheets are processed or OCR is corrected.

01
Upload

INEC publishes

INEC uploads scanned Form EC8A sheets (polling-unit result sheets) to the IReV portal as the election concludes.

02
Extract

Sheets are read

EveryVotes downloads each uploaded sheet and extracts the vote tallies using AI-assisted OCR.

03
Check

Figures are tested

Extracted figures are compared against accreditation data. Anomalies are flagged, never corrected.

04
Aggregate

Totals are built

Totals are aggregated across every polling unit whose sheet has been uploaded and parsed.
